Bucket Collection this Saturday – SCFC Community Foundation

There will be a bucket collection this Saturday in support of the Stockport County Community Foundation’s Disability and Mental Health Football Programme.

As a registered charity, established in February 2007, the Stockport County Community Foundation’s aim is to promote healthy lifestyles through sport that will make a real difference to the lives of children, young people and families in our community.

We are very proud of the opportunities we offer within the local area to over 250 children, young people and adults (Male and Female) with a range of physical and learning disabilities and mental health illness to engage with football and sport. The programme that we run is designed to extend physical activity opportunities in Stockport and the local area and increase the opportunity for disabled people to play football and take part in a range of multisport opportunities. We provide weekly Pan Disability and Mental Health football and multisport coaching sessions as well as monthly competitive football tournaments. Stockport County Disability Football are proud to have two Junior Teams (under 12’s and under 16’s) and three adult teams that take part in the weekly training and play in the monthly tournaments.

We work very closely in partnership with the Cheshire FA and run the monthly Ability Counts Football Tournaments for junior and adult disability teams to take part in from Stockport, Manchester, High Peak and Cheshire. In addition, we work in partnership with local schools and special schools, colleges, disability organisations, day services and mental health groups such as NHS Pennine Care Trust by providing both football and multisport coaching sessions on a weekly basis. The project has grown in strength since its inception 8 years ago and is now a key part of many people’s weekly routine.

Over time we have seen many benefits that the project has brought to people’s lives in extending opportunity and choice; promoting health and wellbeing; improving self-esteem and confidence; building new skills; reducing social isolation by enabling social networking and building friendships; providing volunteering opportunities and opportunity for people to take part in physical activity having fun.

The money collected today will go towards funding some new and much needed sports equipment including footballs, nets, training bibs, training cones, and first aid kits, together with helping with venue hire and tournament costs for our Disability and Mental Health Football and Multisport project.

Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity and we are very grateful to you for any donation you make!
