There will be a bucket collection this Saturday ahead of our National League clash with Sutton United, in aid of Walthew House!
Please take a minute to read below and find out more about Walthew House:
We are pleased to welcome Walthew House along to Edgeley Park this afternoon to carry out their bucket collection to raise funds for their charity. Walthew House is Stockport’s Centre for people with a sight or hearing loss.
It is estimated that 60,000 people in Stockport have a sight or hearing loss that affects their ability to function effectively in everyday situations. This might, for example, be a hearing loss that makes accessing services that use automated phone lines impossible, or a gradual age related sight loss that affects a person’s confidence to go out independently. Sight or hearing loss can create barriers that leave people feeling isolated.
Walthew House is an independent, local charity based on Shaw Heath, providing practical and emotional support to over 300 people with sight or hearing loss every week. Services include: a not for profit equipment resource social and activity groups; a youth club; a helpdesk and other information services in accessible formats; specialist counselling for people with a sight loss; and informal advocacy support for anyone with a sensory loss and their families.
Walthew House was established in 1882 to provide people with a sensory loss with the means to obtain education and work so that they might be able to support themselves within the community and lead full and useful lives. In essence the benefit the charity aims to deliver is unchanged. Walthew House still strives to level the playing field for people who are disadvantaged because of their sensory loss.
Please do ask any of our collectors if you’d like any further information about Walthew House. Thank you in anticipation for your generosity and support today.
