We can confirm that defender Jordan Keane has today left the Club, in order to join National League side Halifax Town on a two-year-deal.
Jordan will rightly be remembered as a legend at Edgeley Park, joining the Football Club four years ago from Boston United and going on to make 148 appearances in all first-team competitions (over 150 when accounting for his appearances in our successful Cheshire Senior Cup campaign), and winning two league titles alongside Sam Minihan, Ash Palmer and Ben Hinchliffe. He made 25 appearances in all competitions last season as the Club secured promotion back to the Football League for the first time in eleven years.
Following conversations with Keano over the Summer, the Club respected his desire to play as many first-team games as possible next season at a crucial stage of his career, and following strong interest from Halifax dating back to last season it was decided that this move was in the best interest of all parties.
He will always remain an important part of the Football Club’s journey, going down in history as part of the County team that led us out of our non-league exile. There remains a will from all parties to continue the relationship with Jordan into the future, whether that be through coaching or mentoring opportunities at the Club.
For now, we thank Keano for his fantastic and loyal service over the last four seasons and wish him all the very best during his time at Halifax, alongside other fan favourites Jamie Stott and Matty Warburton. We hope to see him back at Edgeley Park again very soon.
First-Team Manager Dave Challinor said:
“We wish Keano all the best in the next chapter for him. It’s extremely difficult as the Club moves forward and evolves that opportunities for players may become fewer, and him moving on has been a really difficult decision. He’s been great at the Football Club, a model professional that goes about his business with minimal fuss and very low maintenance.
“He played a significant part in our success last season but regular football and extra security for him is what he needs. He leaves on really good terms with everyone, can really hold his head up high as a player to win two championships with the Club and will always be part of the Club’s history.
“He certainly won’t be a stranger as a role in the academy coaching one of the younger age groups will hopefully be confirmed very soon and he will be an asset as he looks towards what’s next after playing for him. I can only thank him for what he has done since I’ve been at the club and I’m sure all the supporters will do the same over the period he’s been with us.”
