Colgan returns as new Head of Goalkeeping

We are pleased to confirm the appointment of Nick Colgan as the Club’s new Head of Goalkeeping, replacing the outgoing Shwan Jalal following his departure to Newcastle United.

Colgan returns to Edgeley Park having previously spent time on loan with the Club during the 2003/04 season, where he played alongside County boss Dave Challinor.

The former Republic of Ireland goalkeeper brings a wealth of experience with him from a playing career that spanned 22 years, including spells with Hibernian, Barnsley and Grimsby having originally come through the ranks at Chelsea. He also made nine appearances for his country between 2002 and 2007.

Since retiring from playing in 2013, Nick has enjoyed successful coaching spells with Huddersfield Town, Wigan Athletic and Nottingham Forest, before more recently spending time as Academy Goalkeeper Coach at former Club Barnsley. He was part of Huddersfield’s first-team coaching staff when the Club were promoted to the Premier League for the first time in 2017 under David Wagner.

Nick officially begins his new role today, having earlier taking charge of the goalkeeper session during training at Carrington.

Welcome back, Nick!

Director of Football Simon Wilson said:

“We’re delighted to welcome Nick back to the Club in a coaching capacity. We are fortunate to have secured someone with so much experience and understanding of goalkeeping. I am sure he will add to the good work already done in this area and benefit all goalkeepers across the first-team and the academy.”
