Community Trust launches County Tackles Cancer project

Stockport County Community Trust is launching a new project to promote cancer screening.

Thanks to grant funding from voluntary sector organisation Answer Cancer, County Tackles Cancer will highlight the importance of NHS screening for breast, bowel and cervical cancer, engaging with supporters through matchday activities, stadium events and other Trust initiatives.

Eddie Owen, Community Trust Health & Wellbeing Manager, recently met up with Answer Cancer’s Programme Manager Susan Crabb and Project Co-ordinator Jacqui Naraynsingh at Edgeley Park to mark this exciting new partnership.

Said Eddie: “Aligning with Answer Cancer allows us to address this vitally important area of public health.

“Studies show that cancer screening saves thousands of lives each year. It can detect cancers at an early stage and, in some cases, even prevent them from developing in the first place. It’s a powerful message that we’re keen to spread as widely as possible.”

Stockport County Football Club has also signed up to Answer Cancer’s ‘Bee Seen, Get Screened’ pledge which will allow staff members to take time off work to attend cancer screening appointments. It will also encourage them to talk frankly and freely about the disease.

Ellie O’Connor, Stockport County’s Head of People, commented:

“The ‘Bee Seen, Get Screened’ campaign is such a valuable initiative. Not only will it enable us to share information and raise awareness, it will also help to reduce barriers and ease the process for any employees who need to get themselves screened.”
