County and AMS launch Audio Descriptive Commentary service

As part of our County Collective initiative, we are delighted to announce the official launch of our Audio Descriptive Commentary service at Edgeley Park – in partnership with Alan March Sport.

The free-to-access in-stadium service is designed to enrich the matchday experience of our visually impaired supporters, providing instant and descriptive coverage of the action from a trained group of volunteer commentators.

County Collective stands as Stockport County Football Club’s resolute commitment to ensuring that every individual who wishes to support, engage, or work for the club feels not only included but also valued. It’s an important move towards building an environment where diversity is embraced, and this service provides another step towards achieving that goal.

Alan March Sport (AMS) have commentary teams around the country, including Premier League clubs such as Nottingham Forest, Wolves, Fulham and Newcastle. They have covered matches at the FIFA World Cup 2022, The UEFA European Championship, UEFA Champions League, Nations League, Europa League and Women’s Champions League Finals, as well as the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and we are delighted to be able to offer their services at Edgeley Park.

Following a successful test launch last weekend, this service will now be available to use for the first time this Saturday, for our Emirates FA Cup First Round tie against Worksop Town.

We currently have ten commentary receivers that are available for use on a match day, and we recommend booking them for use in advance of the game where possible. Simply email [email protected] to request one of the receivers, which will be available to collect from the main office reception at Edgeley Park on the day of the game. For hygiene and comfort purposes, we recommend bringing your own earphones/headphones with a jack cable, to connect to the device.

Please note that you will need to sign for the device when collecting it from the main reception, and all receivers must be returned to the same place after the game.

Media Executive, Liam Richardson said:

“We’re delighted to finally be able to launch this very important service, which has been in the works for some time now. One of the few downsides of our promotion back to the EFL was the loss of free-to-air commentary service, which unfortunately has made life difficult for our visually impaired supporters inside Edgeley Park.

“We’ve worked hard to find the best possible solution for this, and I’m confident we’ve found just that in teaming up with industry leader, Alan March Sport. Unlike our streaming commentary, which broadcasts at a slight delay, the commentary provided by AMS will be instant, allowing all of our visually impaired supporters to keep right up with the action along with the rest of the Edgeley Park faithful,

We already have a great team of volunteer commentators who have spent the last few months training for this at our home games; all County fans, who I’m sure will use their passion to help bring the game to life. I’d like to thank them and AMS for their support in setting this service up.
