County Christmas Day Fourteen: County win live on BT Sport!

As we hit the two-week mark in our #CountyChristmas countdown, we go back to earlier this season, as County got back to winning ways against Hartlepool, in another thrilling night under the floodlights at Edgeley Park!

Having lost five straight games in September, County had managed to stop the rot with a 0-0 draw at Sutton in the previous game, but went into our night game at home to Hartlepool desperate to return to winning ways.

The drama of the occasion was only intensified by the presence of the BT Sports cameras, with the game shown live on TV – County determined to make amends for defeat in our last live game, at home to Maidenhead on opening day.

A fast start was crucial, and the Hatters duly provided when Ash Palmer swept home his second goal of the season after just five minutes to send Edgeley Park into raptures!

Tom Walker, making his (second) debut after signing on loan from Salford City the day before, came close to doubling County’s lead minutes later, seeing his curling effort tipped on to the post by the ‘keeper.

He wasn’t to be denied on 21 minutes however, as he got on the end of a flowing move to fire home and double the Hatters advantage.

A strong second-half from the visitors saw them pull one back five minutes from time, and County were indebted to a fine finger-tip save from Ben Hinchliffe in the dying moments to preserve a crucial three points.
