County Christmas Day Seven: Thomas Beats Barrow for First National League Win!

One week into our #CountyChristmas Countdown, and on Day Seven we remember when a strike from Adam Thomas got County up and running in the National League.

Despite following up opening day defeat to Maidenhead with impressive points away from home at Yeovil and Notts County, County went into our home game against Barrow yet to taste victory since returning to the National League.

For a while, it looked like that wait may have to go on a little longer, as Scott Quigley fired Barrow into a 3rd minute lead that they held at the break, with County increasingly frustrated.

Within minutes of the second-half though, County had the leveler they deserved, a first home goal of the season courtesy of Frank Mulhern’s close-range finish.

Just three minutes later, and an incredible turnaround was complete, Jordan Keane firing home a superb low drive from distance, to the delight of (almost) all inside Edgeley Park!

The Bluebirds drew level through an Adam Rooney free-kick, but ultimately County weren’t to be denied, and retook the lead with 20 minutes remaining, Adam Thomas sweeping home his second goal in as many games.

That set up a tense grandstand finish as Barrow pushed desperately for another goal – former player Jason Taylor striking the post in injury time, but the Hatters held on for a first win in the fifth tier since beating Alfreton back in April 2013. County were well and truly back!
