County Christmas Day Two: Sam Minihan wins it at Wrexham!

On day two of our #CountyChristmas countdown, we look back on when a strike from our very own #2 sealed an unforgettable away victory for the Hatters!

County traveled to former Football League rivals Wrexham looking for a first away win of the season following promotion to the National League, and a first win at the Racecourse since December 2007!

Having lost 6-1 on our last visit to Wrexham, County fans could be forgiven for expecting the worst – they needn’t have.

Ash Palmer headed home Elliot Osborne’s free-kick on 20 minutes – his first goal of the season – to give County the lead, before Ben Hinchliffe pulled off an extraordinary fingertip save to keep County in front.

Then came the games defining moment six minutes before half-time, as another free-kick, from Sam Walker this time, wasn’t dealt with, leading to Sam Minihan firing home his first goal of 2019 to send the travelling County fans into raptures.

Wrexham pulled one back late on, but the Hatters held on to record a fourth win in five, amid jubilant scenes in the away end at the final whistle, as the sound of ‘we always win away’ rang out across the stadium.
