County Community Trust marks No-Smoking Day

Stockport County Community Trust has partnered with three high-profile organisations to raise awareness of No Smoking Day 2025.

The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, Manchester University’s NHS Foundation Trust and Stockport Council’s public health team organisations attended the Trust’s Social Wellbeing group at Edgeley Park to offer advice, information and signposting to over fifty attendees. They also spread important messages about local lung cancer screening, which the NHS is currently rolling out to Stockport residents aged 55 to 74 who are current or former smokers.

People in Stockport will be offered free NHS Lung Health Checks when the mobile unit comes to their area. Eligible patients will be sent an invite by SMS and in the post. Patients registered with a GP in the following areas are due to be invited for their appointment in late spring and summer 2025: Edgeley, Cheadle Heath, Shaw Heath, Davenport and Adswood. Patients registered at a GP in Reddish, Brinnington, Woodley and Bredbury should have already been invited.

The Trust’s link-up with the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation also involved matchday activity at the County v Charlton Athletic game, which saw the charity chatting to supporters, distributing vital information and exhibiting a giant-sized inflatable set of lungs behind the Together Stand.

Said the Trust’s Health & Wellbeing Manager Eddie Owen:

“It’s been great to team up with this trio of organisations to spread the word to the Stockport County community in such a dynamic and proactive way.

“Early detection of lung cancer saves lives – NHS screening can make all the difference – and it’s been amazing to see so many people visiting our stands and engaging with us so positively.”
