County defender pens new deal

We are pleased to announce that defender Neill Byrne has signed a new deal with the club, keeping him at Edgeley Park until 2025.

The Irishman joined County from fellow League Two side Tranmere Rovers in January, on an initial six-month contract – the third time he has linked up with manager Dave Challinor, having played for him previously at AFC Fylde and Hartlepool United.

Byrner went on to play a big part in our strong finish to the campaign, playing 21 games in League Two, during which time we lost just three times and conceded only 11 goals.

His contract was due to expire this summer, but we are delighted that he has now extended his Edgeley Park stay for another two seasons.

Director of Football, Simon Wilson said:

“Neill came in on a short-term contract and made a great impact both on and off the pitch. He has turned down a number of other offers to stay here, and we are delighted to have him re-join the group for the coming seasons.”
