County feeling good as James Brown checks in

We are delighted to announce the signing of attacking full-back James Brown on a season-long loan from Championship side Blackburn Rovers.

The exciting Irish right-back left League of Ireland Premier Division side Drogheda United to join the Lancashire Club in January on a six-month deal, having caught then manager Tony Mowbray’s eye during an initial trial at Ewood Park.

The 24-year-old has impressed during his time at Rovers, representing their U23s side on several occasions and making his senior debut for the side in the Championship on the final day of last season, starting away at Birmingham City. He has since been awarded a new one-year deal with the Club, with the option of an additional year.

Prior to that he had established himself as one of the best defenders playing in Ireland, winning the 2020 League of Ireland First Division title with Drogheda. He went on to captain the side and was named in the 2021 PFAI Premier Division Team of the Year, as well as being voted Drogheda’s Supporters’ Player of the Year.

Director of Football Simon Wilson said:

“James is a player who was regularly flagged by the scouting department last season and it was no surprise to see Blackburn recently extend his contract after an impressive six-months. James is a tenacious front foot defender who will add quality and competition to the positions on the right hand side.”

First-team manager Dave Challinor said:

“We’re delighted to bring James to the club. He’s played a lot of senior football over in Ireland and earned his move to Blackburn, making his Championship debut on the final day of last season. He’s a forward thinking defender who can play in a variety of positions down that right hand side and we’re really looking forward to working with him.”
