County Live: Legend Series – Liam Dickinson

This week’s guest on Stockport County Live’s Legend Series is County’s very own Wembley hero, Liam Dickinson.

Liam is synonymous with County and its fans, having scored the goal that secured our first ever Wembley win, in our 2008 League 2 play-off final victory over Rochdale.

That goal was part of a stellar season for the striker, who scored 21 League goals en-route to promotion, securing the Club’s Player of the Year award that year.

That goal-scoring form saw Dicko leave for Derby County the following summer, the start of a nomadic Football League career that included spells at Leeds United, Brighton, Barnsley and Peterborough, amongst others.

The fan favourite even returned to Edgeley Park for a short spell back in 2013, playing 13 games and scoring once, before departing for Stalybridge Celtic.

In his interview with County Live, Liam talks about that successful first spell at County under Jim Gannon, who gave him his chance in League Football after signing him from Woodley Sports.

He talks about the life-long friends he made during his time at County, and how he still to this day talks about that fateful afternoon at Wembley.

To hear all of that and more from Liam, watch the interview below.
