County Live: Legend Series – Tommy Rowe

This week on Stockport County Live’s Legend Series, it’s the turn of 2008 Wembley winner and fan favourite winger, Tommy Rowe.

After rising through the Club’s academy, Tommy made his debut for the Club in 2007 at the age of just 18, coming off the bench against Premier League Watford in the FA Cup Third Round.

After establishing himself in the first-team during the second half of the 2007/08 season, the winger went on to make 85 appearances for the Club, including all our play-off games, as promotion was secured at Wembley – his in-swinging cross leading to our crucial equaliser in that game.

Since leaving the Hatters at the end of the 08/09 season, Tommy has gone on to enjoy a successful career in the upper regions of the Football League, enjoying spells at Peterborough (where he again worked under Jim Gannon), Wolves, Scunthorpe, Doncaster and Bristol City, where he currently still plays.

Speaking to Chris Ridgway, Tommy still speaks fondly of his time at Edgeley Park, talking of the ‘immense pride’ he feels whenever anyone mentions Stockport County to him.

He was full of praise for both Jim Gannon and Peter Ward for giving him his chance when breaking into the first-team, and the impact they had on him as both a player and a person.
