County supporting Green Football Weekend

This weekend, Stockport County will be joining the football community in supporting the Green Football Weekend campaign, which aims to tackle climate change and bring together fans, clubs, leagues, broadcasters and partners to take action in reducing our carbon footprint and making greener decisions.

This year, the initiative invites fans to join their #TransferToVeg challenge which asks supporters to makes changes to their diets that help the planet – and eat like the playing elite! What we eat impacts both our health and performance, and, by choosing healthier options, we also help to protect our world.

Supporters have the chance to do just that in the County Courtyard this weekend as we unveil our new vegan option, with vegan meatballs in tomato & oregano sauce with pasta available to buy ahead of our game against Harrogate Town.

Where possible, we’re also encouraging fans coming to the game this weekend to think about how they travel to Edgeley Park. We have a cycle rack available in the Vitality Railway End car park for supporters wanting to cycle down to SK3, whilst Stockport Train Station is also just a short walk away!

Other options are available too, with companies such as Liftshare offering a free car-sharing service, offering you the chance to travel to the game with a fellow County fan – helping to further reduce Co2 emmisions by sharing the travel!

By getting involved, you can also help us take part in the Green Football Cup, where you compete to score the most green goals by taking climate-friendly actions. From eating a veggie meal, reducing food waste, or making the switch to greener energy, there are plenty of ways you can get involved and support the campaign!

By pledging to get involved, you can help County move up the Green Football league table, with every action scoring us more green football points. Click here to get involved!

The live leaderboard will be broadcast by Sky Sports and TNT Sports across the weekend and the winner will be announced on national TV and media – with participating fans getting the chance to win some amazing prizes!

As an EFL football club, we recognise and embrace our responsibility to campaign for change, helping to protect the environment and build towards a greener, more sustainable planet.
