Stockport County is proud to be supporting the UK’s leading Armed Forces charity during the new season.
The logo of the Royal British Legion will be proudly displayed on the back of the alternate away shirt during the new campaign, with a Poppy on the sleeve.
The club will also make a contribution to the charity at the end of the season based on sales of the replica shirt.
County Director Jon Keighren, who is also a spokesman for the Royal British Legion in the North of England, said: “As we enter 2018 we will begin to commemorate the centenary of the end of World War One, so this is the perfect opportunity for County to showcase the incredible work that the Royal British Legion does for our veterans. We have a significant Armed Forces community here in the borough of Stockport who make a huge contribution to our area and they should be recognised for that contribution.
“County will also offer the Royal British Legion opportunities to fundraise during the year and we hope our supporters will give generously, as they always do, particularly during the period of Remembrance. The Royal British Legion supports our Armed Forces community through thick and thin, ensuring that their unique contribution is never forgotten.”
Gillian McKinnon is the Legion’s Area Manager for Merseyside and Cheshire – she said: “We are very grateful that Stockport County has chosen to highlight the work of the Royal British Legion over the next twelve months, particularly as we head into 2018. The Legion has been marking the centenary of the First World War with commemorations and projects focussed on Remembrance, education and legacy.
“But we also want people to understand that the poppy is not just about Remembrance; it’s also about providing hope for the Armed Forces community of all ages throughout the year. The ‘Live On’ slogan links our twin commitments to the memory of the fallen and the future of the living. Your donations help to fund our welfare work which allows the British Armed Forces, veterans, and their families to live on to a more hopeful future.
“We are really looking forward to a long and successful partnership with the football club and wish County all the best for the new season.”
The Poppy logo was produced by Thermopatch Sports in time for the new kit launch.
The new shirt will make its debut in the home friendly against Preston North End this Saturday, and go on sale on Monday 17th July.
