County win the race to sign Hamilton

Stockport County is delighted to announce the signing of attacking midfielder Micah Hamilton on loan from Championship side Middlesbrough.

The 21-year-old joins us until the end of the season and trained at Carrington for the first time on Thursday morning. He will wear the number 28 shirt during his time at Edgeley Park, and is available for selection for Saturday’s game against Crawley Town – with tickets for that game on sale online here.

Micah moved to Middlesbrough in the Summer from Manchester City, joining for an undisclosed fee and signing a four-year deal with Michael Carrick’s side.

The Manchester-born attacker had been with City since the age of nine, progressing through their U18 and U21 sides before making his debut for the first team in a Champions League Group Stage game away at Red Star Belgrade. It proved to be a night to remember for the youngster, who started the game and went on to open the scoring for City in the 19th minute.

Having made further appearances in the Champions League and Emirates FA Cup for Pep Guardiola’s team, the England Youth International spent pre-season on tour with the Premier League Champions in the USA, before completing a permanent move to Middlesbrough in August.

Capable of playing as a number 10 or out wide, Micah has made 16 appearances in all competitions for Michael Carrick’s side – 13 of which have come in the Championship, with Boro currently sat 5th in the second tier.

Having seen his game time limited in recent weeks he now joins Dave Challinor’s squad for the second half of the season in League One, becoming our first signing of the month as we look to strengthen our bid for back-to-back promotions.

Director of Football, Simon Wilson said:

“Micah is a player who was in demand this summer from a number of Championship clubs and it was no surprise to see Middlesbrough, who sign particularly well, invest in him. He has tasted top-end Championship football and arrives to us hungry for playing time so he can impact and help the team.

“As a local lad he knows all about our Club and has shown a will to come to us, in spite of a lot of competition. Our supporters can expect an attack-minded player with power, pace and creativity. These players always thrive in positive environments and I am sure we can collectively create this and see the best of Micah during his time here.”

First-Team Manager Dave Challinor said:

“Micah is a player with huge potential and quality, as seen from the glimpses in Manchester City’s first team. His move to Middlesbrough hasn’t quite turned out as everyone would have hoped, but they have belief in what he can achieve there. Both he and they feel that a move and a platform at our level can catapult him closer to that.

“He’s an exciting forward player that can give us real quality at the top end of the pitch and we’re really looking forward to seeing and working with him.”
