Danny Lloyd returns to County!

We’re delighted to announce that winger Danny Lloyd has returned to Edgeley Park, signing on loan from Salford City until the end of the season.

The 28 year old was a fan favourite during the one season he spent with the club, scoring 29 goals during the 2016-17 season, and he becomes the first official signing of the Mark Stott era.

Originally joining the club from AFC Fylde shortly after winning promotion from the National League North with the Coasters, Danny also notched up over 20 assists during that season, as the Hatters fell just short of the play-offs on the final day.

That stellar season earned Danny a move to League 1 Peterborough United, where he went on to make 37 appearances and score 13 goals, including a hat-trick away at Tranmere Rovers in the FA Cup.

Despite signing a three-year deal with the Posh, Lloyd signed for Salford City the following season for an undisclosed fee, going on to play a crucial role in their promotion to the Football League. He has made a total of 49 appearances for the Ammies, scoring six times – including a brace in their 2-2 draw with Morecambe earlier this season.

Jim said: “It’s great to have Danny back, I have watched his career since leaving here with great interest, and I believe of all the players that left in recent years he was the best equipped to be a success.

“We have perhaps been afforded this unique opportunity to have Danny back because of the special relationship he has with the Club. Even with the excitement of the recent takeover it is always difficult to convince players to come from higher levels. But Danny’s appetite to come and play for us was refreshing. His determination to join us highlights his enthusiasm for both playing the game and playing for this special Club.

“Our performance and result against Sutton has helped bring a stability to the team. But we want to grow in confidence and start to play the game in the way that we know we can. The dynamic attacking play that was a highlight of our recent run to the playoffs was built on great energy, drive and quality from the attacking midfielders. Danny certainly gives us the confidence of getting back to those levels again. We have fifteen games to enjoy our football and achieve something special and I know Danny will be at the forefront of that drive.”

Danny will join up with the squad immediately, and be available for this Saturday’s trip to Hartlepool United in the National League.

Welcome back, Danny!
