Stockport County is delighted to announce that manager Dave Challinor has signed a new three-year deal with the club, contracting him at Edgeley Park until 2026.
County have enjoyed a remarkable level of success under the 47-year-old, who guided us to the National League title in 2022 on the back of a record-breaking run, before taking us all the way to Wembley for the League Two play-off final last season.
Since his appointment in November 2021, DC has taken charge of 97 games in all competitions, guiding us to 56 wins in that time and leading us back into the Football League for the first time in 11 years.
The gaffer’s previous contract was due to expire at the end of the 2023/24 campaign, and having come so close to securing back-to-back promotions just a few months ago we are delighted to have secured his services for the next three years.
First-team manager Dave Challinor said:
“I don’t think it’s any secret that since I came to the football club, I’ve been really happy. We’ve had some success, there’s still the overriding disappointment of the end of last year, but in terms of where I am and where the club are, we’re aligned in what we want to try and achieve over the next few years. To extend my stay is something both parties wanted to do, so happy to get it done.”
Director of Football, Simon Wilson said:
“With a year remaining on Dave’s initial contract, all parties came together this summer to review our progress to date, but also our shared vision for the future. We came out of that aligned and both parties wanted to reinforce our commitment via this extension.
“We believe strongly in the direction we are going under Dave’s leadership and I think he believes strongly that we will deliver the support required to enable success moving forward.
“He has grown during his time with the club and will continue to evolve here. It won’t all be plain sailing as it never is but there is an underlying level of trust on both sides to come through the challenges and continue to move the club forward.”
