Disley Primary School to represent Stockport County at Wembley!

Players from Disley Primary School will have the once in a lifetime opportunity to take to the hallowed Wembley Stadium turf in May ahead of the League 2 Play-Off Final, when they compete in the Utilita League Two Kids Cup final as Stockport County’s representatives.

The team secured their place in the final after victory over the school representing Crewe Alexandra in the northern regional final which took place last Friday. The U11’s six-a-side tournament was hosted by Rochdale AFC Community Trust, with 9 other league two teams also competing for this fantastic opportunity.

In partnership with the EFL, the Utilita Kids Cup is a national tournament played at local and then regional stages. Schools compete to represent their EFL side on the national stadium’s pitch in front of thousands of fans ahead of the EFL play-offs final weekend in May.

Chris Pownall, County Community Trust’s Schools Manager said:

“Well done to Disley Primary School, they all played really well and should be proud of themselves. They are all very excited and can’t wait for the experience of playing at Wembley Stadium.”

Andrew Robinson, Disley Primary School teacher added:

“Having the chance to represent Stockport County in the northern stage final was brilliant and to now get to do that at Wembley is unbelievable. The boys showed their resilience and team spirit to beat some really good teams. To get to Wembley is a fantastic achievement and is something the boys, their families and our school will remember for ever! We are all so proud.

“We can’t wait for the experience and are aiming to win the competition for Stockport County. As a County season ticket holder, I am hoping for a Stockport County double on 28th May if we don’t get automatic promotion – what a day that would be!”

Congratulations Disley Primary School and good luck for Wembley!
