County may be enjoying a rare Saturday off this weekend, but there’s still plenty of action to keep an eye on over the coming days in the National League, as the race for the title really starts to hot up.
As we were due to play Dover Athletic, who have forfeited their season, this weekend, Simon Rusk’s side will be able to sit back and watch the rest of our title challengers in action ahead of our next game against Dagenham on Tuesday 11th May.
Sutton United will be looking to bounce back from a last-gasp defeat at 10-man Notts County in midweek as they welcome struggling Weymouth to Gander Green Lane in a 3pm kick-off. Matt Grey’s side now sit just a point above County in second, but with a game in hand.
Saturday’s late kick-off sees league leaders Torquay United take on in-form Bromley looking for a fourth straight win to move eight points clear of us, edging them closer to a return to the Football League. 7th placed Bromley will be confident of causing an upset though, coming into this one on the back of victory over Hartlepool on Bank Holiday Monday that strengthened their play-off hopes.
That defeat for Hartlepool saw them drop out of the top three and below County in the league table, but will know that victory against Maidenhead at the weekend will take them back above us, for a few days at least.
County fans may also want to keep an eye on the result of our next opponents Dagenham, who are flying at the moment – travelling to Wealdstone looking for a sixth straight win as they make a late charge for the play-off places.
