Everton’s Onyango joins on loan

We are pleased to announce the signing of Everton’s Tyler Onyango, who joins us on a season-long loan deal.

Tyler joins ahead of our season opener against Cambridge United on Saturday, training with the first team at Carrington for the first time this afternoon.

The 21-year-old, who has previously spent time on loan at Burton Albion and Forest Green Rovers, has spent most of his career playing in midfield, but over the last year has reinvented himself as a ball carrying right-sided centre-half, with an aerial presence at 6’5.

A former England youth international, Tyler has been in Everton’s academy since the age of eight, making his debut for the Toffees in an FA Cup win over Sheffield Wednesday in 2021.

He made his Premier League debut later that same year, coming on as a substitute against Manchester City, before going on to make further appearances against Chelsea and Aston Villa over the course of the 2021/22 campaign.

He spent the first half of the following season on loan at Burton Albion in League One, featuring 16 times in the league for the Brewers, including 11 starts. He went on to spend the second half of that season on loan at Forest Green Rovers, having been brought in in January by former Everton youth coach, Duncan Ferguson.

Tyler will wear the number 24 shirt whilst at Edgeley Park, and will be available for tomorrow’s game against Cambridge United.

Director of Football, Simon Wilson said:

“Tyler brings a good deal of quality, physicality and versatility, which we think will suit our team and the league. We expect him to settle in well, he already knows a good few of the squad, and our character references have been very good. Our thanks go to Everton for their support of the loan deal and for choosing us as the right Club for Tyler’s development.”
