Our final group stage opponent in this season’s EFL Trophy has now been confirmed, with Manchester United U21’s joining us in the Northern Section of Group E.
As confirmed yesterday, Bolton Wanderers and Salford City are the other sides involved in Group E. We will take on each side once, with two home games and one away game, with the top two from the group progressing to the knockout stages.
League One Bolton are the current holders of the competition, having beaten Plymouth 4-0 in the final back in April. It will be our first completive meeting against the Trotters since that unforgettable 5-3 FA Cup triumph in 2021.
It will also mean yet another match-up against Salford, who we faced four times over the course of last season – beating them on penalties in the League Two play-off semi-final. The Ammies were winners of the competition themselves in 2019, when beating Portsmouth on penalties in the final.
Full fixture information for this competition will be announced in due course.
