Goalkeeper becomes County’s fourth summer signing!

We are pleased to announce the signing of former Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Jordan Smith, on a one-year-deal.

Jordan joins County after leaving Premier League Forest in the summer, bringing to an end a 22-year association with the club having been there since the age of seven.

The 28-year-old enjoyed productive loan spells with Ilkeston and Nuneaton Town as a youngster, before making his professional debut for Forest in February 2017, coming on as a substitute for the injured Stephen Henderson in a Championship game against Norwich City.

He was able to celebrate a first clean sheet of his Forest career just a few weeks later, and went on to play 15 times in the second half of the 2017/17 campaign.

His performance on the final day of that season is still remembered fondly by Forest fans. The club went into their game against Ipswich Town needing to win to retain their Championship status, with Smith producing several stunning saves at 0-0 to keep them in the game, providing the platform for the Reds to go on and win 2-0, securing survival at Blackburn Rovers’ expense.

His form at the back end of that season earned him a new three-year contract with the club, and he made a further 32 appearances for them the following season – starting 29 games in the Championship.

During his time at Forest, Jordan worked closely with goalkeeping coach Nick Colgan, who he now links up with again at Edgeley Park. Although his game time at the City Ground became more limited in recent seasons, he remained an important part of the club’s goalkeeping squad as they secured promotion to the Premier League in 2022.

We are delighted to have secured Jordan’s services for next season, further strengthening the competition for places within our goalkeeper department.

Welcome to County, Jordan!

Head of Goalkeeping, Nick Colgan said:

“First and foremost, I would like to welcome Jordan to Stockport County. Having worked closely with him in the past I know that we are bringing not only a very good goalkeeper, but also an excellent professional into our football club who will enhance the goalkeeping department. I am looking forward to seeing him challenge Ben, Ethan and Bobby for a starting spot in the team.”
