Minute’s silence for Gordon Taylor.
Stockport County will hold a minute’s silence ahead of our forthcoming FA Cup clash with Curzon Ashton following the death of the club’s Safety Officer Gordon Taylor earlier today.
Gordon has been responsible for match day safety at Edgeley Park for more than 30 years and was honoured at a presentation in recognition of his three decades of service at the end of last season.
County Chairman Richard Park said: “Everyone at the club is in shock following the death of such an iconic and popular figure. Gordon was a highly-regarded individual with one of the toughest jobs at any level of football. He leaves behind a proud legacy of professionalism and integrity which is second to none, with an exemplary record of service at Stockport County, the club he held so close to his heart.
“Gordon was a giant in every sense of the word and will be sadly missed by us all at Edgeley Park. He will be particularly missed by our legions of stewards who held Gordon in the highest esteem. We invite everyone to join us before the game on September 16 when we will pay our tributes to a true gentleman.”
Gordon’s duties at Edgeley Park for both Stockport County and Sale Sharks covered almost 1200 professional matches.
He was also responsible for public safety at a string of high profile public events including several air shows and the 2012 Olympic Games. At the London Games, Gordon was the Safety Officer for the hockey, leading more than 250 staff and looking after tens of thousands of spectators from all over the world.
The thoughts of everyone at Stockport County are with his friends and family. RIP Gordon.
