Stockport County manager Jim Gannon speaks to 104.9 Imagine FM presenter Chris Ridgway about the win on the road at Darlington, the challenge ahead in the FA Cup tie with Corby Town and how his squad, with the exception of Paul Turnbull, are now “fully fit”.
Jim Gannon on Darlington
“It was nice to go up there and get a win. Those three points were massive. It put us in the right half of the table, and now we’re looking up rather than down.”
He’s not wrong. With the win at Darlington, Stockport County now find themselves only three points away from the play off places and 11th in the table overall.
Jim Gannon on Training
“We changed a lot of things in training, there were things we felt we couldn’t change overnight, but we’ve bought in full time players to give us that strength. The squad’s looking really strong, not just the 11 but the bench…and they’re training really well”.
Elliot caught the eye in a brief stint at the club in 2017. Many fans had been hoping that one day a return would be on the cards. So his powerful 45 minutes in the game last week was great news for both manager Gannon and County’s travelling supporters.
Jim Gannon on the FA Cup
The old conundrum of which is more important between the cup and the league comes up too. Jim tells Chris, isn’t as simple as ranking one over the other:
“The FA Cup, and Corby Town, is our priority, because they’re the team we have to play next. Ultimately we’re not going to be remembered by how we do in the FA Cup, but it’s important we get a win and then go on to the league and get a win the following week”.
Jim Gannon on Corby Town
“They’ve got a couple of experienced players who have played in the league. They’ve earned the right to be here” says Jim on the weekend’s opposition.
“They’re in the groove in the FA Cup they’ll be looking forward to showing how good they are”.
Following the conversation with Jim Gannon, Chris Ridgway and Martin Johnston of 104.9 Imagine FM pick over another week in the lives of Stockport County fans.
They discuss Nyal Bell and the new arrivals and their respective roles in the squad, at this crucial period in the season.
Chris and Martin also picked their ‘one to watch’ for the Corby Town game. As usual they also decided who was ‘da man’ in Stockport County’s win at Darlington.
Don’t forget that as always, Chris Ridgway joins Jon Keighren this Saturday on 104.9 Imagine FM. And around the world on County Player for full match commentary and all the coverage of Stockport County in the Vanarama National League North.
