Jim is Manager of the Month

Jim Gannon has won the Manager of the Month award in the National League North for December 2018.

A hugely impressive sequence of results during December saw County climb from the bottom half of the table to the top three in less than four weeks.

The Hatters beat promotion rivals Spennymoor, Kidderminster and Altrincham, hammered Ashton United 6-0 and took points off Alfreton and Chester last month, whilst also progressing in the FA Trophy with another victory over the Robins.

Since Boxing Day, Jim Gannon’s side has won six games in a row without conceding a goal.

Jim, who has managed the club through more games than anyone in Edgeley Park history, said: “I’m really pleased, Liam Watson had a fantastic month with Southport, Alun Armstrong also had a fantastic month with Blyth Spartans, so it’s nice to be considered over them for the achievements we’ve had in the league and the FA Trophy last month.

“I’m delighted to accept the award on behalf of everybody at the club, because it’s hard to pick out any one player or any one person for recognition. It’s been a massive collective effort by eveyone during December, it was a really tough month for us, so it’s great that this kind of reward has come to the club.

“There were signs of us coming together during November, we knew we had a very good group of players and we knew we were coming into a month where everyone was returning to fitness.

“There’d been signs that we were adding aspects to our games that were going to make us more competitive, although we knew we had a tough run, with games such as Spennymoor away, in particular, and we had all these FA Cup games to catch up.

“We knew over Christmas we’d be facing teams above us, so it was a massive month for the club but I think everyone has been pleasantly surprised and pleased, not only about the month we’ve had ,but also the way we’ve built during this month.”

On Saturday, County progressed to the third round of the FA Trophy with a 5-0 home win over Truro City.

The Hatters return to action in the National League North this Saturday as County entertain York City at Edgeley Park.

It’s Jim’s first divisional prize since winning the same trophy exactly two years ago. He previously won the Scottish Premier League Manager of the Month award when he was in charge at Motherwell.
The board of directors at Stockport County would like to congratulate Jim on his award, and would also like to thank the staff and players for their immense contribution.
