Let’s be Avenue! – “It’ll be a tremendous atmosphere,” says Adam Thomas

The Hatters face promotion rivals Bradford (Park Avenue) AFC at Edgeley Park tomorrow, kick-off 3pm.

With more than 1700 tickets already sold in advance, it could be County’s biggest attendance of the season.

County winger Adam Thomas said: “We’re going to have a massive crowd here at Edgeley Park which will create a tremendous atmosphere.

“Everyone’s on a high, and why not? We’re playing really well, we’re the form team in the league and we shouldn’t fear anyone at this stage.

“The lads have belief in what the gaffer is trying to do here, you can see the partnerships forming around the pitch and everyone’s working together as a unit, we know how to hurt teams more and how to shut up shop, and you can see that with our goal record.

“We just need to keep our form going and keep that momentum. The lads are flying, but we need to keep doing things right, we’ve been professional and everyone’s applying themselves in the right way, and you can see that on a match day.”

County boss Jim Gannon was full of praise for Mark Bower and his Bradford (Park Avenue) AFC side. He said: “They’re second for a reason – they’ve got the best away record in the league, they’ve scored in every league game this season and they’re the division’s top scorers, so that deserves respect.

“They don’t concede a lot of ground, they’ve got good counter-attacking ability and good set plays, plus they’ll want to keep us at arm’s length, so it’ll be an extremely tough game but it’s something we’ve been building up to and we’re at a good stage now for our first home game of the new year and what a cracking game to start with.”

He also praised his players for winning six of their last seven fixtures in all competitions: “They deserve this game on Saturday,” he said. “It’s going to feel like a cup final.”

The Hatters have everyone available ahead of tomorrow’s game, with the exception of Sam Walker who has a hamstring strain. Jake Kirby faces a late fitness test on a foot injury which he picked up during the win at Altrincham on January 1, but is hoping to be available.

Supporters are being urged to arrive early at the game tomorrow with a big crowd expected for the clash with second-placed Avenue.

Home fans will once again be able to access our new bottle bar in the Pioneer Group Cheadle End, with a variety of lagers and ciders on sale (cash only).
