Louie Barry has been rewarded for his electric start to the new season, after being named as the Sky Bet League One Player of the Month for August
The Aston Villa loanee, back at Edgeley Park for another season, has picked up where he left off in SK3 with three stunning goals in our first four league games of the campaign.
He marked his second debut for the Club in some style on the opening day, scoring an outrageous lob from 40 yards out, just four minutes into our first game back in League One after a 14 year absence.
He followed that up with a sublime solo strike at Blackpool a week later, before making it three in a row against Bristol Rovers with a brilliant, swerving half-volley from the edge of the penalty area.
Those goals helped Dave Challinor’s side pick up ten points from the opening four games of the campaign, as we ended the month unbeaten and top of the table. Louie has since added a further goal, against Accrington Stanley in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy, taking his tally to four goals in five games this season, and 13 in just 27 appearances for the Club.
Louie, who won the League Two Player of the Month award last September, beat off competition from Alfie May, Adam Phillips and Lloyd Jones to win the award.
Upon receiving the award, Louie said:
“Winning this award means a lot to me, particularly because it’s come as part of a great month for the team. You never really know what to expect or how it’s going to go when stepping up a league, but with the squad we have we feel capable of winning any game and that’s shown in the results so far. This is an award for the whole team, because they give me the platform here to show what I can do week in, week out.
“For me personally, coming back from injury, scoring with my first touch of the season against Cambridge just put a spring in my step and I’ve really kicked on since then. There’s still more to come, from me and from the team, but it’s been a great start and long may it continue.”
First-Team Manager, Dave Challinor added:
“Louie has scored three eye catching goals which have drawn plenty of plaudits, but beyond that has played an integral part in the team starting this season in a positive manner – with plenty more still to come.”
