After suffering a defeat on the southwestern coast last weekend, County will look to quickly return to the form instilled since the arrival of Dave Challinor.
“This competition is one that provides big opportunities”, were the words of the County boss as he looked ahead to Saturday’s Buildbase FA Trophy clash. Keen not to play down the tie despite the magical moments in this year’s Emirates FA Cup, Challinor reflected on his past experiences at Wembley stating, “there’s no greater experience”.
Sarcevic Torquay 2-1
In an all National League affair, Grimsby return to Edgeley Park having played out a closely contested 0-0 draw in the league tie back in August. Chances were at a premium in that fixture but with an experimental Grimsby expected in SK3 this weekend, County will be looking to emulate their last two performances in front of the County faithful who’ve have seen their side score 10.
With both sides on the cusp of the play-off places in the National League, Saturday provides an opportunity for some changes in personnel, but the County Boss believes that those that come in will “back themselves to play in this team consistently” whilst again reinstating a desire to go far in this tournament, “we still want to win the game”.
The Opposition
Paul Hurst’s side come into this fixture having won just one in their last eight and are in search of a catalyst to reignite their season. The Mariners started their campaign in fine form winning eight of their eleven opening games in the National League, but a trip to Wealdstone back in October unhinged that run of form drastically.
Grimsby make the trip to Edgeley Park this weekend with “a number” of players ruled out for various reasons with The Mariners boss highlighting that “it’s a challenging time” for the club.
