Match officials confirmed for EFL Trophy opener

Referee Matt Corlett is set to take charge of Tuesday night’s EFL Trophy group-stage fixture between County and Manchester United U21s at Edgeley Park.

It will be the official’s first competitive game involving County, having been promoted to the EFL over the Summer, although he did take charge of our pre-season friendly at home to Blackburn Rovers in July. As a Premier League 2 referee, Corlett did referee United U21s last season, in charge for their 1-1 draw with Arsenal in March.

He refereed a total of 18 first-team fixtures during the 2022/23 campaign, with 17 of them coming in the National League – including the showpiece play-off final between Chesterfield and Notts County at Wembley. In that time, he issued 59 yellow cards, two red cards and awarded two penalties.

Corlett has taken charge of two other games so far this campaign, overseeing Grimsby Town v AFC Wimbledon on opening day, as well as Harrogate Town’s Carabao Cup win over Carlisle United. He showed seven yellow cards and no reds in that time, whilst a penalty was awarded in each fixture.

The Assistant Referees on Tuesday night will be Danny Jarvis and Callum Jones, whilst Thomas Harty will be the Fourth Official.
