Following an unbeaten October in the National League, November’s first test sees us go head to head with out of form Woking FC at Edgeley Park, as we return to Edgeley Park for the first time in over three weeks!
Tuesday night’s impressive 2-2 draw away at leaders Bromley saw us end the month with a record of two wins and two draws in the league – a record all the more impressive when you consider the long-distance journeys to Sutton, Dover and Bromley in that run.
That point in South London saw us remain in 17th place, but currently just three points shy of Saturday’s opponents, who currently sit 8th in an extraordinarily congested National League table – we currently sit nine points clear of the drop zone, and five shy of Notts County in the final play-off place.
Our Opponents:
Despite a disastrous end to the 2017/18 season that saw Woking’s six-year stay in the National League come to an end, last campaign was one of immediate redemption for the Cards, as they secured immediate promotion back to the fifth tier via the National League South Play-offs.
Despite losing out on the title to eventual runaway champions Torquay United, second place Woking, successfully navigated their way through the play-offs to secure promotion, defeating Welling United 1-0 in the final.

In what was their first season under former Hampton and Richmond manager Alan Dowson, there was also Cup success for the men from Surrey, as they made it all the way to the FA Cup third round – beating League 2 Swindon along the way, before eventually being beaten 2-0 by Premier League Watford.
Since their promotion, Woking have added no fewer than 14 new faces to the squad in order to compete in the division above. Amongst those signings is defender Shaun Donnellan, who was part of the Maidstone team County defeated 3-0 in last season’s FA Trophy Quarter-final.
Despite being billed as pre-season relegation candidates, Dowson’s men had a flying start to the season, winning seven of their opening eight games in August to emerge as the surprise early League Leaders, remaining top until as late as September 21st.
Unfortunately for the Cards, that early season form has since faltered, with no wins in their last 10 League games and just six points (the worst record in the division in that time) seeing them drop out off the play-off places and down into eight place.
Although they have only lost four games in that run, their last win came on August 31st against Barrow, with Tuesday night’s 4-0 defeat at home to Notts County a low point in their season.
Whilst County will need to be wary of Woking top-scorer Jake Hyde (the former Stevenage man scoring seven goals to date), the Cards also carry a unique threat from the back, with defender Kane Ferdinand already knocking in four goals this campaign.

Match Stats:
- Saturday’s game will be just the fourth meeting between the two sides, with County losing all of the previous three – the most recent of which being a 4-2 defeat in the FA Cup first round back in 2016/17, with Jimmy Ball scoring twice for the Hatters.
- Despite Woking’s poor recent run, the Cards have only been beaten twice on the National League road this season – those defeats coming at 1st place Bromley and 3rd place Yeovil Town.
- County will be looking to go five games unbeaten in a National League season for the first time since September 2011 (four draws, one win).
- Elliot Osborne’s goal was his fourth of the season, making him County’s top goal-scorer – one ahead of Adam Thomas. He has already doubled the tally of goals he scored last season for the Hatters.
