Match Preview | Harrogate Town | 24-08-19

This Saturday, County visit Harrogate Town FC for the first match of a very challenging Bank Holiday weekend.

The Hatters visited the CNG Stadium last season, in the Buildbase FA Trophy, and were 4-2 victors on their way to the semi-final of the competition.

This was a much-improved result on the last league meeting between the two sides, which happened the previous season, as the Sulphurites came out 4-1 victors on their way to National League North promotion.

Harrogate started this season well, with a 2-2 draw at home to Solihull Moors on the opening day followed up by a 3-0 victory on the road at Barrow AFC.

However, Simon Weaver’s men have lost their previous three games, against Woking, Notts County and Dagenham & Redbridge. Therefore, they are still looking for their first home victory.

The club has no former County players in their squad, however many have featured against the Hatters, in particularly last season’s knockout match.

However, current County defender Ashley Palmer had a brief loan spell at the CNG Stadium, making three appearances for Harrogate while on loan from Scunthorpe United.

Fellow teammate Frank Mulhern, who scored twice in the 4-2 win last season, also went on loan to Harrogate Town, this time from Guiseley AFC, making just one substituted appearance for the Sulphurites.

Manager Simon Weaver, son of Chairman Irving, is currently one of the longest-serving managers in English football, having been made manager in May 2009.

Since then, he has faced County 12 times, Saturday being his 13th, being victorious five times, with four of those wins being at the CNG Stadium.

As County enter a run of tough and challenging games through the back end of August and start of September, the Hatters will be looking to start off with a repeat of last season, a terrific win on the road at Harrogate Town.
