Match Preview | Wrexham v County

This weekend, County cross the border as they head to Wales for Saturday’s tie against Wrexham FC.

Our last encounter with Wrexham was a disappointing 6-1 loss for the Hatters in a FA Trophy replay in 2015. The two sides haven’t met in the league since 2012/13, when County were last in the fifth tier.

The only two members of the Wrexham squad from the 2015 FA Trophy tie are Emmanuele Smith and Mark Carrington, the Red Dragons’ vice-captain.

There is a familiar face on Wrexham’s books in Jason Oswell – who scored 30 goals for County in the 2017/18 season.

This season, he has made three substitute appearances for Wrexham, all coming on past the 85th minute, picking up no goals as of yet, and one yellow card.

The Red Dragons also have playing for them, James Jennings, former County striker Connor Jennings’ brother, and Christian Dibble, former County goalkeeper Andy Dibble’s son.

Wrexham are currently unbeaten at home in the National League, winning two and drawing one of their three home games so far this season. However, they are without a win in three games overall, seeing them placed 13th in the table after seven matches.

They have however, scored in every match so far this season, and have two players currently with three goals to their name (Bobby Grant and Mark Harris), which is the same as County’s Adam Thomas and Elliot Osborne.

Last season, they made the National League Play-Offs, but lost in extra-time in the quarter-final to the team County beat a fortnight ago – Eastleigh.

County’s last win at the Racecourse Ground came in 2007, when Anthony Elding’s winner helped the Hatters on their way to League Two promotion.

The Hatters have not beaten the Dragons since 2012, and are still looking for their first away victory of the season.

As County look to make it four wins from five, they have to overcome a very tough challenge in Wrexham in order to keep the early form going and to stay in the Play-Off places.
