Match Preview | York City v County

This Saturday, County travel to Bootham Crescent to start their FA Cup campaign, coming up against York City.

The Hatters played York last season, losing 1-0 away very early into the season before claiming a 3-1 victory at Edgeley Park in January.

The January clash was also the first game in the York City hotseat for current manager, Steve Watson, who now has the Minstermen top of the National League North and unbeaten in all competitions.

York currently sit three points clear at the top of the league, three points clear of second-placed Chester FC, having only conceded seven goals this season in the league.

York have beaten Irlam and Buxton already in the FA Cup to reach the Fourth Qualifying Round of the competition.

A few former Hatters now feature for the Minstermen, including Adriano Moke and Sean Newton, both of whom spent just one full season at Edgeley Park.

Men to watch out for up front include Jordan Burrow and Alex Kempster, who are on five and six league goals respectively, as well as both scoring in the FA Cup campaign.

Last season, York made the First Round of the FA Cup, losing 2-1 to Swindon Town while County beat Yeovil 3-1 before going out in the Second Round to Barnet.

Manager Steve Watson said in an interview with York City:

“It’s a really exciting draw, they are the current champions of our league, they were the team that I faced first for York which wasn’t a very enjoyable experience so I think everybody involved knows about the performance against them last season and we will want to try and lay that to rest.”

Both teams will be looking to get their name in the hat for the First Round Proper, whilst the Hatters will also be looking for their first win at Bootham Crescent since 1996/97.
