Richmond Rovers Royals will be on ballboy/girl duties for this Saturday’s game against Chorley FC at Edgeley Park.
Richmond Rovers Junior Football Club was founded in 1983 by Ken Foulkes, Stuart Rowson, Alan Bancroft and Dave Wheeler. During that first season, 1983/84, the club was represented by an Under 12’s team playing in the Stockport Metro League and an Under 13’s team playing in the Reddish League.
The name Richmond was selected at random from a local telephone directory to compliment the Rovers suffix. The teams played at Park Rd, adjacent to Cheadle Town Football Club, and at Davenport School, Stockport, with players based in the South Stockport area.
During the 90’s the club evolved to what it is today – Poynton based, managing teams from Under 7’s up to Under 17’s.
Some clubs may measure their success in terms of the number of cups and trophies in their ‘trophy cabinets’ but Richmond Rovers consider their success to be measured by the pleasure and opportunity given to local youngsters and them having the chance to participate in regular organised football activities. This isn’t to say they don’t strive to achieve honours each season but they don’t want to sacrifice participation in the search for glory.
The squad for the game is as follows;
- Olé Brearley
- Christian Woodsworth
- Owen Schatynski
- Oliver Sumner
- Oliver Anders
- Jude McDonagh
- Will Hurst
- Jamie Sherburn
- Jacob Chick
Good luck to everyone, and have a great game!
