Along with our supporters, our players are at the heart of our Club. Aside from the SCPA, we celebrate those who pull on the shirt to represent County and we have a number of ways that we do this:
The Stockport County Appearance Number (SCAN) scheme
In 2010 Stockport County FC became the first club in the county to issue a unique appearance number to every player who had made a senior first team appearance since 1893. The scheme was devised and is run by our supporters and involves the presentation of a framed certificate, written by a professional calligrapher and wax sealed. This celebrates the date and opponent of a players debut and their unique SCAN. These certificates are always presented in person by a County supporter.
Since the beginning of the 2022/23 season, the unique SCAN appears on all first team match worn shirts
All of the 1647 players who, since 1890, have achieved the highest accolade in making a senior first team appearance, are listed on the Players Wall. This is located immediately outside the County dressing room at Edgeley Park and is a wonderful reminder of all of those who has gone before us. This is focal point for former players and families returning to Edgeley Park and is a striking reminder that those who have played for County are never forgotten and that the achievement of playing for The Hatters is one that we celebrate.
The names on the Players Wall are also listed on the wall in the concourse at the Cheadle End stand at Edgeley Park, so that supporters and visitors can also see all of the names.
In November 2018, we unveiled a very special bronze plaque at Edgeley Park. This recognised and remembered the former players of Stockport County FC who made the supreme sacrifice in giving their lives during World War One.
The plaque is situated on the external wall of the Cheadle End next to the Memorial Wall.
