Pye joins National League side on loan

Defender Ethan Pye has today joined National League side Gateshead on a season-long loan deal, whilst also signing a one-year extension to his contract.

The 19-year-old’s new deal now runs until 2024, with the option for a one-year extension, and he now makes the move to the North-East to gain valuable first-team experience in the National League.

Ethan joined the Club last Summer after leaving Rochdale’s academy, and made his full debut for the Club in a 2-1 win at Weymouth in October and impressing on the left of a back three. He went on to make a further two appearances last season, coming on as a sub in our 2-2 draw away at League One Bolton Wanderers.

He enjoyed a successful loan spell at Spennymoor in the National League North during the second-half of last season, and now heads back North to join a Gateshead side that won the National League North title last season under former Newcastle midfielder Mike Williamson.

Director of Football Simon Wilson said:

We’re delighted with the progress that Ethan made last season, having a taste of first-team action with us before enjoying a good spell at Spennymoor. This move represents the next step in his development with the challenge of playing regularly in the National League, and we look forward to watching him progress again over the next 12 months.”
