The match officials for our opening day game against Gillingham on Saturday have now been confirmed, with referee Benjamin Speedie set to take charge.
Speedie refereed County just once during the 2022/23 campaign; overseeing our 2-0 home win over Carlisle United last October. His only game involving Gillingham last season came in April, as he took charge of their 2-2 draw away at Bradford City.
An EFL referee since 2020, he oversaw 36 games in all competitions last season, the majority of which came in League One (16) and League Two (15). In that time, the official issued 138 yellow cards and six red cards, whilst awarding a total of ten penalties.
Speedie will be assisted on the day by assistant referee’s, Ryan Williams and Marvyn Amphlett, whilst Mark Jones will be on Fourth Official duties.
