Referee Watch: Woods to officiate Gillingham game

Referee Martin Woods has been selected to take charge of Saturday’s League Two fixture between County and Gillingham at Priestfield Stadium.

It will be the second time this season that Woods has taken charge of a game involving County, having also overseen our 2-0 win over Crewe Alexandra on Boxing Day. He has also refereed Gillingham on one previous occasion, in charge for their 0-0 draw with Swindon in September, in which Gills defender Haji Mnoga was sent off after ten minutes.

The official was promoted to the EFL over the summer, having refereed 17 first-team games last season – including the National League play-off final between Solihull Moors and Grimsby Town. In that time, he showed 59 yellow cards, two red cards and awarded five penalties.

This season he has officiated 25 games across all competitions, during which time he has shown 93 yellow cards, five red cards and pointed to the penalty spot on seven occasions. His last game saw him take charge of Port Vale 0-0 Oxford United in League One last Monday, in which a red card was shown to Vale’s Dennis Politic.

Woods will be assisted on the day by Leigh Crowhurst and Andy Bennett, whilst Damith Bandara will be the Fourth Official.
