Stockport County today announce that from the beginning of the 2022-23 season, all first team match worn shirts will have the recipients Stockport County Appearance Number (SCAN) included.
The SCAN will be located on the rear collar of the shirt and going forward it is the intention of the Club that this will become the permanent location of this important number.
The Club are proud that we were the first football club in the UK to issue a unique appearance number to every player who had made a senior first-team appearance.
The SCAN scheme, which is run by County supporters, was formally launched in October 2010 and since that date, nearly 250 specially prepared commemorative framed certificates have been presented to players and their families. The lowest numbered certificate presented so far is number 22 (Billy Parker who made his debut in 1900), with the most recent recipient (Zaine Francis-Angol) being given the number 1430.
With a deep history that runs back to 1883, County are proud of all of the players who have represented The Hatters since our formation. The SCAN Scheme has played a significant role in providing recognition to all of those who have worn our shirt and has created a strong link back to former generations. With the SCAN now appearing on the shirts of the current players, this will only reinforce, strengthen and celebrate our heritage moving forward.
Marcus Heap, Club historical advisor and SCAN co-founder said
“At the time of the launch, having spoken to both the FA and EFL, it was not possible to place the individual SCAN on match worn shirts. This is something that we have wanted to address for a number of years and with County re-entering the EFL, we are delighted that we can now make these special numbers a permanent feature on our shirts”.
