Antoni Sarcevic - Midfielder

FIRST TEAM PLAYER

Player Profile

Midfielder Antoni Sarcevic joins Stockport County after an impressive career at Bolton Wanderers, having led the side to promotion from League two last season as captain. After scoring 8 goals in 35 appearances, this marked the fourth time throughout his career in which Sarcevic has been involved in promotion from the fourth division, having achieved promotion with Plymouth Argyle the previous season.

Sarcevic originally came through the ranks at Woodley Sports, playing alongside County Captain, Liam Hogan before spells at Crewe, Chester and Fleetwood Town. During his time at Fleetwood, Manchester-born Antoni topped the club’s assist charts, while also scoring 15 goals, including the winner in the 2014 League two play-off final.

After joining Plymouth Argyle, Antoni soon became a fan favourite after helping them to secure a 2nd place finish, becoming known as the ‘Manchester Messi’. Despite the side eventually being relegated back into League two, the midfielder remained, helping them gain promotion the following season and being voted as the Supporters’ Player of the Year.

Most recently, Sarcevic joined Bolton Wanderers where he was immediately made captain and played a key part in their run of 16 wins out of their final 22 games to clinch promotion. He went on to score a further 3 goals in 14 appearances the following season before making the move to Edgeley Park.

Sarce made his debut for the Club off the bench at Notts County in October 2021, scoring his first goal for the Club in a 5-1 win against Altrincham on Boxing Day. He made 30 appearances in total during our 2021/22 title winning season, forming a formidable midfield three alongside Will Collar and Ryan Croasdale.

Despite an injury-hit 2022/23 campaign, the midfielder still made 33 appearances in all competitions and scoring six times. He played a crucial role in our play-off semi-final victory over Salford City, coming off the bench and setting up our equalising goal, before scoring the winning penalty in the shootout.
