Player Profile

Club captain Paddy Madden, 33, has had a prolific scoring record throughout his career in the Football League, with over 100 goals to his name whilst playing in League One before making the move to Edgeley Park from Fleetwood Town.

Having started his career in Ireland with Bohemians, Paddy first made the move to English football in January 2011, signing for League One Carlisle United, before going on to enjoy an incredibly successful spell at Yeovil Town.

After initially joined the Glovers on loan, a run of nine goals in 16 games for the Somerset Club saw the deal made permanent. He would end up finishing the season with 23 goals, including one in Yeovil’s play-off final victory against Brentford, to secure the League One Golden Boot.

With Yeovil struggling to adapt to life in the second tier, Madden made the decision to move on, signing for League Two Scunthorpe United for a fee of around £300,000 in January 2014. Again, Madden’s arrival had an immediate impact, with his five goals that season helping the Irons to finish second and secure promotion back to League One.

Back in the third tier, Paddy found his best scoring form again, scoring 16 goals in his first full season at Glanford Park before following that up with another 23 the season after. By the time he left the Club, his 60 goals had made him 10th in Scunthorpe’s all-time top scorers list.

Making the move to Fleetwood in 2017, the goals continued to flow as Madden hit 19 in each of his two full seasons at the Club. His 43 league goals for the Cod Army make him the highest goalscorer in their EFL history.

Paddy made the move to County in March 2021 for an undisclosed fee, signing a three and a half year deal. He scored his first goal for the Club against Hartlepool United at Edgeley Park, and went on to score seven times in 15 appearances during the rest of the season.

The 2021/22 season quickly saw Paddy become a Stockport County hero. The Irish goal machine made 49 appearances in all competitions, firing home 25 goals and registering nine assists as the Club won promotion back to the Football League after an 11-year absence. His form and goalscoring exploits saw him named as Player and Players’ Player of the Year for 2021/22.

Back in his normal hunting ground of the EFL, Paddy scored a further 11 times in 44 appearances last season as County finished fourth in League Two, losing the League Two Play-Off final to his former club, Carlisle.

Paddy’s home sponsor is Ava Fellowes and his away sponsor is Oliver Rose and Harry Carruthers.

Paddy’s Stockport County Appearance Number (SCAN) is: 1412
