Sam Minihan - Defender

FIRST TEAM PLAYER

Player Profile

Attacking right-back Sam joined the Hatters in May 2016 from Worcester City. He decided to move back to his native north west after graduating from Loughborough University, where he played his football in the Midland League ahead of his season at Worcester. Sam can play full back, wing back or act as a hard-working wide midfielder in a three or four-man midfield.  He also has Football League experience, having started his career with hometown club Rochdale.

He was named County’s Young Player of the Year during his first season with the club. Sam’s second season was disrupted by injury, but last season he was a vital part of our historic title-winning season, consistently providing breathless displays down the right-hand side, and contributing greatly both in attack and defence.

Sam scored three goals in his first season, and has scored eight in total, including a vital late winner in the 2018/19 season in a 1-0 win over Kidderminster Harriers as County won the National League North, with Minihan made 46 appearances. He followed that up with 39 appearances and one goal (the winner in the 2-1 win away at Wrexham) in the 2019/20 National League season, before signing full time for the club prior to the 2020/21 season.

Sam again proved himself an invaluable member of the team last season with 43 appearances in all competitions, as we just missed out on promotion via the play-offs.
