We have an opportunity to deliver a stadium that is fit for purpose – and that includes how our fans interact with our neighbours. By improving many aspects of the stadium, including access, we hope to deliver a better match day experience for everyone.

We understand that our neighbours will have lots of questions about our plans. We want to work positively with our neighbours and come up with innovative ways to address challenges.

Our next phase of consultation will provide more detailed information about our plans, especially the detailed proposals we’re developing for the new East Stand, which will be the first element to be delivered.

However, these are some of the areas we’re already considering and would like your views on:

    • Thinking about our operational matchday management plans and how these will need to evolve to cater for an increased capacity.

    • Understanding how the new, larger stands would change the views and levels of sunlight for those living in the streets next to Edgeley Park.

    • Assessing how levels of noise might change as a result of the larger capacity, both within and outside the stadium.

    • Thinking about construction management and access routes and how we handle this as sensitively as possible.

At this stage, we would like to hear from our neighbours to understand the questions they have about our vision for an expanded Edgeley Park, so that we can put plans in place to address these.

Local benefits

The investment into an expanded Edgeley Park will deliver significant benefits for the immediate local area, Stockport town centre and beyond. These benefits will be generated through the growth of the Club and the expansion of our wider operations.

We will be assessing these benefits as we progress the detail of our plans, but at this stage we can already provide a summary of the type of benefits this project will deliver:

Create new jobs at the club associated with the expansion of the stadium and the new facilities we plan to create. Roles could be as diverse as match-day marshalling and catering, or more permanent roles within the workspace we plan to provide.

Provide investment into Edgeley and Stockport during the construction phase – generating on-site construction jobs and jobs in the local construction supply chain.

Act as a catalyst for further regeneration in Stockport town centre and beyond and help promote a new positive identity for Stockport.

Support expanded community outreach initiatives and programmes, such as the Stockport County Community Trust, which will have tangible social benefits within the local community.

Promote increased engagement and participation with the Club as a key pillar of the local community.

Expanding Edgeley Park will help Stockport County to make a full contribution to the economic, social, cultural and environmental performance of the borough and a successful football club will generate considerable local pride and uplift the spirit in the town.
