Stockport County Girls Talent ID Day

Stockport County Community Trust were delighted to invite 50 girls from high schools throughout Stockport to a Girls Talent ID event at the Power League complex last week. Delivered in partnership with the EFL Trust and The FA, the day saw girls honing their skills with the support of the Community Trust coaches.

The aim of the event was to discover and help identify the next future Lionesses by providing opportunities for talented girls to be signposted to the England Talent Pathway, which in turn provides potential pathways to representing England’s junior national teams.

As part of the training day, girls had the opportunity to experience a variety of training drills whilst putting them into practice in a number of games. Events like this are key for girls that may not have the chance to showcase their talent with a chance to getting referred for further opportunities.

Oliver McCall, Community Trust Sports Coordinator commented on the day: “It was a brilliant day. The girls seem to have really enjoyed it, they’ve worked hard and, most importantly, they’ve had fun and the opportunity to express themselves and show what they can do.

The event is about giving girls opportunities to play football and to be talent spotted into the England Talent Pathway. It’s very important to showcase that football is for all and, at Stockport County, we’re very proud to bring about these initiatives. It’s very inspiring for County to be at the forefront of this as well”.
