Stockport County supports One Stockport

Stockport County Football Club is proud to support the One Stockport campaign, created to aid recovery from the Covid-19 crisis and help the borough ‘build back better’.

The Club is proud of the role it plays in the wider Stockport community, which is at the heart of our core values, and looks forward to playing its part in support of this crucial initiative.

Please see below for more information on the One Stockport campaign, and how you can get involved:

A new website has been launched to support the next and future phases of the One Stockport campaign as the public, community groups and businesses are being encouraged to get involved and to help shape the future of the borough.

The website will act as a central hub and include a wealth of information on One Stockport including how to get involved in the campaign. A downloadable marketing toolkit for businesses will compliment a new brochure highlighting the campaign’s aims and values.

A short film has also been produced featuring a number of local people and showing people’s experiences in photos. The narrator takes the viewer on an incredible journey of what has been, what we have achieved as a community and how we can all work together to build a better future, for everyone.

The main message of One Stockport is that anyone can get involved and that everyone has an important part to play in shaping future plans for the borough – however small. Whether volunteering in the community, a business owner or worker, a student or a retailer or by becoming an ambassador to help steer the campaign everyone can help to promote the One Stockport message,

Leader of Stockport Council, Cllr Elise Wilson said:

“If you share the vision and values for Stockport and want to work together to develop a plan for the borough or want to get involved in supporting the campaign, we want to hear from you! Your ideas and feedback will help to shape a long-term plan for the borough.

“This has the potential to be something really special and to build on all the great work and relationships that have been formed during the last few months. But we need your help to make it a success. The stories I have heard have been heartening and as a borough we have supported and looked out for each other through difficult times. We need to build on this but we need to do this together.

“The website will be a great tool in helping us achieve this, so please take a look and see what One Stockport is all about.”

Carl Hampson, Regional General Manager at Allied Bakeries, agrees:

“Whilst the Coronavirus lockdown has been extremely difficult for so many of us, it has also brought out the best of the people who live in and around Stockport, especially those who have been in a position to help those most in need.  All across the borough we have witnessed great examples of people going the extra mile to make that difference.

“I am so proud of the partnerships Allied Bakeries has developed with Stockport Council, The Wellspring, Manchester Foundation Trust Charity, Age Concern, local Police, NHS, and Ambulance service in helping us to go that extra mile too by allowing us to donate around 18,000 Kingsmill loaves to the most vulnerable in our community.

“It’s an honour for Allied Bakeries to play an activate part in supporting Stockport Council and their partners to build a bright, better and sustainable future. We are ‘One Stockport’ and we all have a part to play in making sure that no-one has to walk alone in these challenging times”.

Nicola Wallace Dean, Starting Point and Woodley Mutual Aid Group, added:

“The last few months have seen communities coming together like I’ve never witnessed before. People are beginning to understand how vital they are to our community and the impact they can have on local groups, shops and organisations. It feels like there is a really desire for this to continue post the pandemic.

“Now is the time for people to come together, share experiences and ideas and work together to help shape a future we can all be proud of. The One Stockport campaign is an exciting way to start this work.”

One Stockport was devised as a response to aid economic recovery from the Covid-19 crisis and to ‘build back better’. Delivered in partnership with Stockport Council and partners from the voluntary, business, health and education sectors, their joint vision is to work together to build a brighter more sustainable future for everyone and to develop a greater sense of pride in Stockport. Throughout future phases, One Stockport will evolve and reach out to the far wider community.

The first phase of One Stockport was launched last month to support the borough’s economic recovery, encouraging people to stay safe and shop local as we moved out of lockdown.
