Striker McAlinden joins Hatters!

County have signed former FC Halifax Town striker Liam McAlinden.

The 26-year-old was top scorer for the Shaymen this season, having signed a short-term deal last summer, which expired a few days ago.

The front man has scored ten goals in 28 appearances this season, bringing him to the attention of several clubs higher up the pyramid.

Liam makes a swift return to Edgeley Park, having scored a consolation goal for Halifax in their 5-1 defeat against the Hatters on Boxing Day.

County boss Jim Gannon says he’s delighted to have been able to add the six-foot-one striker to his squad for the rest of the season: “He plays off the left, which has seen him reach double figures already this season, including his goal at Edgeley Park last month,” said Jim.

“But he can also play right across the front four positions, and can operate as a number ten or a second nine, so he’s a really versatile attacking player. We’re delighted to add him to the squad, and Liam is the first addition as we look to freshen up the squad following the return of our previous loan signings.”

Born in Cannock, Liam started his career at Wolves and rose through the youth ranks at Molyneux before making his debut against Burnley in 2013.

He scored his first Wolves goal in a 1-0 win at MK Dons in March 2014 and ended the season winning promotion back to the Championship.

He scored twice in 19 appearances for Wolves before spells with Exeter City and Cheltenham Town.

Liam has also won caps at Under-21 level with both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Liam, who signed a contract with County this afternoon, will watch his new team mates this evening against Dorking Wanderers and will be available for selection when the Hatters face Sutton United at Edgeley Park on Saturday.
