Supporters’ Groups to honour legendary manager

See below for a joint statement from the Stockport County Supporters Co-Operative and Help the Hatters, as they look to raise funds to commission a statue for our legendary manager, Danny Bergara.

Danny Bergara was larger than life and a real character. Affectionally known as ‘The Man from Uruguay’, his warmth and talent transformed Stockport County’s performances on the field of play beyond recognition in the 1990’s.

In six fantastic years from 1989 to 1995, Danny led County to promotion as runners up from the old Fourth division and to Wembley finals on no less than four separate occasions!

To acknowledge these achievements, the Stockport County Supporters Co-operative and Help the Hatters have joined forces to launch a fundraising appeal to commission a bronze statue of Danny, which would take pride of place outside Edgeley Park.

A target of £50,000 has been set and to get the ball rolling, both supporter’s groups have donated £2,000 each.

Both fan’s groups have been delighted with the overwhelming support for this tribute to Danny on social media and on message boards, but now they need all County supporters to back this campaign with financial donations and make this dream become a reality.

This fundraising appeal will be supported by a series of events and initiatives, including the Hatters Half marathon – www.hattershalf.co.uk,  ‘make us an offer’ auctions, a dedicated evening for Danny, proceeds from the County supporter’s calendar and much, much more!

Please support this campaign, and help us honour a true legend!
