Target 1500 at Barnet

Cup fever has come to County, with manager Jim Gannon hoping to see up to 1500 fans making the trip to Barnet on Sunday as the Hatters enter the Second Round of the FA Cup for the first time in nine years.

On Saturday supporters were queuing to snap up seats on the club’s subsidised coaches, and with tickets for the game costing just £10, there has been a surge of interest from County fans hoping to get to the Hive Stadium, with almost 1000 tickets sold already.

Five coaches are full with a sixth well on the way – that’s in addition to several minibuses which will also be making their way south to carry fans to the game.

It’s also a new ground for Hatters fans, who previously watched our team playing at Underhill.

County’s devoted followers in the Blue & White Army created spectacular scenes at Yeovil Town in Round One and all the indications are that there could be twice as many making the trip to Barnet this Sunday.

Jim Gannon says the support is truly remarkable, and he’s urging as many fans as possible to make the journey to north London next weekend. He said: “It promises to be a great occasion for County fans, especially those who travelled to watch us at Yeovil in the previous round, and they just want more of that. I’m also aware of fans who couldn’t get to the last game and they’ve been hearing stories about what happened at Yeovil so they don’t want to miss out this time!

“When the draw was made, I really wanted a home tie so we could get Edgeley Park rocking and get an atmosphere like the old days in the Football League, but I’ve been bowled over to hear that we’re going to be taking so many people down to Barnet.

“I don’t know if the game being moved to 2pm on a Sunday has helped, because I know there’ll be a lot of early starts for our fans, but from our perspective when that whistle goes and the game kicks off it’ll be a tremendous atmosphere which we can all enjoy.”

Barnet’s average attendance this season has been around the 1200 mark, so County look to be on course to outnumber the home fans on Sunday, despite the 400-mile round trip.
